An Evening With

An evening with John Agard guarantees eloquent word-play, a rich flavour of the Carribean, and uninhibited laughter.

The award winning Guyanese poet, playwright, and writer of children's books was in 2013 a recipient of the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry, and has won numerous other awards. His poems have been featured in the AQA English GCSE anthology since 2002, and thousands of young people have encountered his unique and vividly characterful voice.

A former Writer in Residence at the South Bank Centre, he tours the world giving readings and talks, and returns to Uppingham after a triumphant visit some 10 years ago. His published poetry includes We Brits, Alternative Anthem, Clever Backbone and his latest poetry collection, Travel Light Travel Dark, was published in 2013. Signed copies will be available after the reading.

This event is in aid of Christian Aid.
