Well known as founder of the Yorkshire Post Jazz Band, Dennis is a resident of Bristol where his Western Jazz Band and Bristol Blue Five play regularly. He is also leader of the Great Northern Jazz Band and Armstrong's Oliver Band, which is dedicated to keeping the spirit of Joe Oliver's music very much alive. A formidable cornettist, Dennis Armstrong is a great admirer of the classic jazz of the 1920s and early 1930s, and considers King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band to be the greatest jazz band of all time.
