Najma Akhtar

Najma Akhtar is a British singer and songwriter of Indian and Pakistani heritage. Having released eight solo albums, she established herself as a pioneering vocalist during the late 80s with her widely acclaimed first album 'Qareeb', introducing jazz to the traditional repertoire of Ghazal, an Urdu ballad. This album was hailed as a groundbreaking recording in the World Music scene and has since paved the way for many artists of Indian descent.

This will be a mesmerising and intimate musical evening of song and poetry, incorporating a number of English and Irish traditional ballads and songs to reflect Najma's British nationality and heritage. Using both traditional and contemporary Indian style, her set will be accompanied by a selection of rich sounding instruments, but the star of the show will be her voice, celebrating the Ghazal, the ballad and stories of love.
