Ever-popular Alan Barnes opens the festival with the straight-ahead hard bop quintet he's been leading with Bruce Adams for 20 years! A repertoire from the classic years of bop with an emphasis on accessibility, good humour and a conviction that jazz should swing. Barnes has dominated the saxophone and clarinet section of the British jazz awards throughout the '90s and beyond and is often to be seen compering as well as performing at major jazz festivals.

Bruce Adams (Trumpet and Flugelhorn): Not only is Bruce one the jazz scene's most dramatic and stimulating performers, he is also a tremendously affable companion. A band-room with the Glaswegian Mr. Adams present is a happy and riotous place.
