On Golden Pond
Family tensions and reconciliation are at the centre of this moving 1979 drama. Now in their later years, Ethel and Norman Thayer are staying at their New England summer cabin on Golden Pond - will this be their last time? Their daughter Chelsea has come to visit with her new lover Bill and his tough young son, Billy.
What begins as a stubborn battle of wills between Norman and Billy slowly turns into the relationship that an envious Chelsea always wanted with her father, Norman - who in turn discovers how much he has missed by denying his daughter's love.
Winner of the Drama Desk award for outstanding new play in 1979, Thompson successfully wrote the screenplay for the widely acclaimed film in 1981.
