Elegant Elgar
We're very pleased to end our Symphonies By The Sea season in dramatic style with the RPO returning in a performance that starts with another Southend premiere, a performance of Vaughan Williams' Wasps Overture.
The concert will then continue with an appearance by one of this country's most highly-regarded musicians, the distinguished cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. He will perform his signature work, the Elgar Cello Concerto, a poignant, melancholic composition that Elgar wrote towards the end of the First World War.
In the second half the RPO will perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, his final work which he conducted only 10 days before his death, marking an extraordinary climax to both Tchaikovsky's life and career.
