The Society of Strange & Ancient Instruments

In 1600, Will Kemp, a shameless self-publicist and one of the leading actors in Shakespeare's company, danced his way from London to Norwich in nine days, entertaining an adoring public en route. He published an account of his adventure soon after and The Society, alongside dancer Steven Player, has breathed new life into this celebrated event with their exotic collection of instruments some of which were even a novelty in Elizabethan times.

The programme features wild country dances, raucous ballads, refined courtly dances, and languorous art songs. Nine Daies Wonder began with a residency at Aldeburgh (13-19 January 2014), where the company created the piece and recorded a CD, and is now touring the UK to great critical acclaim.
