The Accrington Pals
Men who enlisted to fight in WW1 were encouraged to join up with their friends in the belief that fighting alongside each other would provide support and a sense of camaraderie.
Known as 'pals' regiments Accrington in Lancashire was one such place where this took place. Although the characters are purely fictitious, the play written by the late Peter Whelan in the 1980s, was partly inspired by the accounts of women from his own family. The Accrington Pals is based on historical fact and provides an insight into how both men and women in a typical English town were affected by the monumental events of the 'war to end all wars'.
SDC offers The Accrington Pals as a tribute to all those who suffered during the conflict and its aftermath. Collections for The Royal British Legion will be taken during the four nights of the play.
Tickets are available to book through the Theatre Severn box office: 01743 281281 or see www.theatresevern.co.uk/shows/drama/the-accrington-pals/ for more.
