Gentle Men
Attila The Stockbroker presents Gentle Men: a history of the First World War through the lives of Pt. Ern Johnson & Pt. Harry Jenner. Performed by folk legends Roy Bailey and Robb Johnson.
'A really moving piece of work' - Billy Bragg
'A brilliant project to soundtrack the looming centenary of the start of the Great War' - The Living Tradition
Robb Johnson's highly acclaimed song suite Gentle Men focuses on his grandfathers' experience of the war. The songs present the effect of history on two of its statistics, two ordinary soldiers, two gentle men, who survived the war but were forever in its shadow. 'In all the artistic commemoration of the First World War, I wager nothing will show more humanity or understanding than Gentle Men, Robb Johnson's song cycle about his two grandfathers'.
Before the start of the show Attila will be reading a poem in memory of his father, Bill Baine, who was also a soldier in the First World War.
