Utsav 2013 - Who Am I?
Experience Indian rhythms, mime, brilliant costumes and fascinating philosophy, in Upsana’s showcase of Indian dance and music.
Utsav, a festival of Indian dance and music, is part of a wider mixed media identity project, Who Am I?, which explores and expresses Indian identity by reflecting on its artistic heritage.
With more than 70 artistes participating from Oldham, Wythenshawe and South Manchester, the dance performance overcomes popular stereotypes and introduces the audience to a 3000 year old dance style, Bharatanatyam, from the temples of South India.
Who Am I? focuses on the belief that artistic heritage helps people explore their identity and infuse confidence, as well as increase exposure, acceptance and respect for anything ‘new and different’.
