The Great War Tribute Rehearsals
From Wednesday April 30th The Witt Studio will begin rehearsing a specially-commissioned show, to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1.
Using staged scenes from well-known Musicals and Operas, alongside powerful songs, this innovative and spectacular show will integrate both live and filmed performances to tell the personal stories of some of the unsung heroines and heroes from both sides of the WW1 conflict.
The Witt Studio Chorus will be joined by eight professional opera singers who will be involved in both the filmed scenes and the live on-stage performances alongside our 100-strong chorus of local singers.
The song list includes ‘Oh What a Beautiful Morning’ and ‘Oklahoma’, the recent hit ‘Happy' by Pharrell Williams, Indie band Elbow’s iconic ‘One Day Like This’, ‘Abide With Me', Elgar’s ‘Nimrod’, a selection of WWI songs, the famous ‘Nessun Dorma’ from Puccini's ‘Turandot', 'Hail Holy Queen' from ‘Sister Act’, 'Luck Be A Lady' from ‘Guys and Dolls’, and ‘The Triumphal March’ from Verdi’s ‘Aida’.
This touching but also at times humorous show will be performed in Reading at Wesley Church, Queens Road, for two nights on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th July.
