Reading Open Air Shakespeare: Love's Labour's Lost... And Won

Framed as a classic folk tale, Love's Labour's Lost sees the King of Navarre and his friends make a vow that study should come before all things: Not to see ladies, study, fast, not sleep. Yet the Lords learn a lesson they were not expecting when the Ladies of France arrive to challenge these oaths. A true battle of the sexes ensues as William Shakespeare's great comedy of the battle of wits pits poetic license against natural urges. Who is the predator and who the prey, when romance is the field of play?

And what of Shakespeare’s lost sequel Love’s Labour’s Won? Decide for yourselves if it was truly lost, or merely rewritten, as two of the possible plays it became, Much Ado About Nothing and The Taming of the Shrew become a play within our play.

Reading Open Air Shakespeare returns in 2014 with a classic Shakespeare comedy, staged for the fourth year in the beautifully restored gardens of Caversham Court, nestling on the banks of the River Thames, close to Caversham Bridge and Reading town centre.
