Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival 2013 - Sensing Memory: As the Leaves Fall, By the Water, Those Snowy Hills, Come Ever Closer: Will McNicol
Can we see how music affects the brain and use the findings to compose new work? Could an intelligent computer write emotional music? How do key, tone and melody combine to unlock feelings and memories? How do we express the loss of memory in music?
Drawing on both classical and electronic music, Sensing Memory combines innovative research into the neuroscience of listening and Artificial Intelligence with world class performances by leading musicians and ensembles.
The festival explores the theme of memory as a virtual sixth sense - through inward journeys of the human brain and the pursuit of lost memories of childhood, forgotten ancestors and global connections.
Visit www.peninsula-arts.co.uk for further information.
Born in Scotland now living in the South of England, Will McNicol began his classical guitar training at the age of seven and currently holds two diplomas in classical guitar recital with Trinity College London.
He started composing and has since developed a unique style of his own, combining acoustic tapping and slapping techniques with the more conventional classical approach. He takes inspiration everywhere from the enchanting landscapes of Spain to the more local, but no less beautiful Plymouth Hoe.
