Song Recital: Sea Fever

Songs of the Sea including the premiere of new songs by Paul K Joyce commissioned by Suzanne Sparrow and Peninsula Arts for the 2015 Words and Music Festival.

Paul K Joyce : "The words to Sea-Fever by John Masefield and The Shores of Amerikay (anon) have provided the inspiration for two original songs in this programme. Each gives a different perspective on the sea.

Sea-Fever revels in the physicality of being aboard an ocean-going craft. It is tinged with longing and a certain respect for the power of the waves.

The Shores of Amerikay is less about the sea itself and more about its ability to convey a reluctant émigré to a distant place. It too is full of longing but for what they must leave behind."
