Continuing the Perth Theatre Out and About series, this is an opportunity to hear the Gordon Duncan Experience in the unique setting of Birnam Arts Centre. The Gordon Duncan Experience is a unique youth trad orchestra, as at home playing traditional tunes by ear as it is in working on complex scored arrangements. Although the style is based in the Scottish tradition it also draws from other musical genres such as jazz, classical, and rock. The ensemble includes a wide range of instruments, not just those normally associated with this style of music.

The Gordon Duncan Experience is named after innovative Perthshire piper Gordon Duncan and much of the repertoire derives from arrangements of his tunes.

The band, which is based at Perth Concert Hall and run by Horsecross Arts, is now in its fifth year and has been led from the start by musician/composer/arranger David Milligan (Unusual Suspects) He is supported by a range of young tutors who are making their own mark in the traditional music world including Steven Blake (Rura), Laura Wilkie, (Fat Suit) Grant McFarlane (Cherrygrove), Mark Bruce (Elephant Sessions) along with acclaimed Perthshire fiddler, Patsy Reid.

This evening's gig will also have a contribution from the Gordon Duncan Experience Training Band, a recent addition to The Gordon Duncan Experience project.
