Faur Requiem Mealor Crucifixus: National Youth Choir Of Scotland
Following sell out concerts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year the
National Youth Choir of Scotland reprise their performance of Fauré Requiem paired with Paul Mealor’s latest piece, Crucifixus.
Fauré said, of what is now his best-known work, that he composed it “purely for the pleasure of it”. Much loved for its serenity and soothing gentleness his Requiem interprets death as a happy deliverance. The choir, in conjunction with organist David Goodenough, are sure to again give, “a very fine performance indeed” (The Herald) in this their last concert before touring Eastern Europe.
Also featured is new Paul Mealor work, Crucifixus: Six Meditations upon the Prophecy and Passion of our Lord. The world premiere, performed by NYCoS and NYOS Futures at Sound festival to a capacity audience, earned five star reviews. Widely known for his motet, Ubi Caritas et Amor, performed at the Royal Wedding Ceremony of His Royal Highness Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Mealor also composed the 2011 Christmas number one Wherever You Are as featured on the BBC Two series The Choir: Military Wives.
Conducted by the inimitable Christopher Bell, the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award winning National Youth Choir of Scotland here demonstrate the intonation, articulation and dynamic range for which they are justly praised.
