A Lover Of Pots - The John O'Meara Collection

John O’Meara started collecting ceramics in the 1960’s when he moved to London from his home in Ireland. Buying work from artist studios and local galleries his passion for all things clay lasted a lifetime. Moving to Newark, he was a regular visitor to Earth & Fire, meeting potters and adding to his collection. He also developed considerable skill himself, creating work at classes at Newark College and his own little studio in his garden.

On his death in 2013, at the age of 80, he bequeathed his collection to Rufford Craft Centre. The bedrocks of his collection are ceramics by Ewen Henderson and Colin Pearson which ignited the collecting spirit. Other notable ceramic artists represented include Robin Welch, John Maltby, Barry Guppy, David Jones, Ian Gregory, Sandy Brown, Geoff Fuller and Peter Beard, together with sculptures by Nottinghamshire artist Peter Eugene Ball.
