Close The Coalhouse Door
From the team who brought you Chicago, Blonde Bombshells of 1943 and Brassed Off
Celebrating the lively spirit of the Geordie miners through tumultuous times, Close the Coalhouse Door is told with a typical wry smile, pithy dialogue and touching songs.
Using the rich seam of British mining and its turbulent history, the stirring story takes us through the strikes, victories and frustrations. The plot revolves around a lively Newcastle family looking back on 140 years of miners’ struggles and triumphs. The irreverent saga is coupled with the joyous music of Alex Glasgow, inspired by the anthems of working people.
From the team who brought you last season’s musical spectacular Chicago and Alan Plater’s masterpiece Blonde Bombshells of 1943 - prepare for a production filled with laughter and tears and an energetic all-singing, all-dancing actor/musician ensemble piece for which the Coliseum is renowned.
With additional material written by award-winning writer Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, The Pitmen Painters), Close the Coalhouse Door has all the irony and lively mischief of Oh! What A Lovely War.
