Bird Marionette Workshop

This marionette - or string operated puppet - has the theme of a bird.

Catch the showing of Egg Bird after the workshop to see a master bird marionette in action.

It can be as naturalistic or fantastical as you want it to be, the only fixed thing is the strings. There is scope to create wings, fashionable claws, extravagant plumage like a bird of paradise, or a red breast like a robin. Time and your imagination are the only limits to what you create..

There is a wide range of materials to choose from as you create the bird of your choice.

Children’s Workshops

For children aged 5 and over.

Each session is themed to a particular type of puppet - from rod puppet to marionette, Bunraku, glove and many more besides. Further information about each workshop can be found on our What’s On page.

After constructing the basic puppet form, your child will be free to create the puppet’s character using the vast array of materials provided. The only restriction will be their imagination and at the end they will have a wonderful puppet to take home!

Please note: during these sessions the child will be working with their peers, supported by our workshop leaders. Accompanying adults may either remain in our foyer and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee or return to collect the child at the end of the workshop.

Workshops last for 1½ hours with a short break midway for a snack or a drink. These can be purchased from our shop or you can bring your own.
