Elbow
Gritty romantic realism from this melancholic and emotional guitar-based band from Manchester, England. Nominated for Best British Newcomer at the 2002 Brit Awards and triumphant winners of the 2008 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize.
Elbow tour dates
Kraftwerk
The German Gods of electronic music, Kraftwerk have been electronica pioneers and flag-bearers since the late 70s and show no signs of slowing down. Songs like 'The Model' (a no 1 UK single), 'Trans-Europe Express', 'The Robots' and 'Tour De France' inspired a generation of bedroom pioneers to pick up their keyboards and play. Without them, modern dance music (ambient, techno and trance) would be a far darker place - if it were there at all.
Kraftwerk tour dates
Massive Attack
One of the most innovative bands that the UK has ever produced, responsible for the sound of the summer, in 1991 with the release of the critically acclaimed Blue Lines. The second album Protection with collaborations with Tracey Thorn and Horace Andy was an even bigger success; both albums have sold well over a million copies each. The third album Mezzanine was a much darker affair and features the vocals of Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and Sara Jay.
Massive Attack tour dates
MGMT
New York duo Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, who, after finding a shared love of obscure, twee music, started MGMT and began making their deliciously sparkly retro pop, heavily influenced by the likes of Bowie, Spaceman 3 and The Incredible String Band.
MGMT tour dates
Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes blend West Coast harmonies with a European baroque sensibility and many have drawn comparisons with legendary acts such as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and the Beach Boys. The band themselves have described their sound as 'baroque, harmonic pop jams'.
Fleet Foxes tour dates
Seasick Steve
This is the real deal. Having learnt about the hobo lifestyle early on in life (via many a freight train) Steve 'Seasick' Wold has developed a vivid and wholly authentic folk-blues style. He's been playing music professionally since the 1970s and still has it today.
Seasick Steve tour dates
Lily Allen
For a London girl who kick-started her career on the Internet, Lily Allen is flying higher than ever. Her cheeky songs, down-to-earth lyrics and dramatic sense of fashion have earned her a place at the top of the charts and have seen her climb her way out of Internet-based cultdom, into mainstream critical acclaim.
Lily Allen tour dates
Klaxons
Neo-rave meets indie-rock from this London band, who merge guitars with synthesized sound to create their unique acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk sound. With influences ranging from Bowie to KLF, Klaxons' art-rock-rave-revolution has been setting fire to dancefloors across the country.
Klaxons tour dates
Bat For Lashes
Sublimely twisted folk made up of pianos, guitars, harpsichords and wistful electronics, embellished by the transcendent voice of the beautiful Natasha Khan. Surrounded by myth and legend, largely created by Khan herself, Bat for Lashes are more than just music; 'a never-ending story of fantastic dreams and heartbreaking reality - the chapters unfold with a sense of wonder and slow, powerfully evoked drama. Bat For Lashes inhabit a magical kingdom you won't want to leave.' (The Guardian)
Bat For Lashes tour dates
Soulwax
Belgian brothers David & Stephen Dewaele, best known for their alter-egos as 2 Many DJs or, less often, the Flying Dewaele Brothers. Famous for their leftfield remixes and As Heard On Radio Soulwax...series, the brothers are one of the most sought after acts around.
Soulwax tour dates
Doves
One of the UK's best indie rock bands (and former members of 'Sub Sub) whose first two albums have allowed the band to dispense with comparisons and forge their own sound. Mellow guitar-driven indie with irresistable chord arrangements, which sometimes give way to playful dance undercurrents, their Glasto 2002 and 2003 sets have been festival highlights for any lucky enough to hear them.
Doves tour dates
The Horrors
Bridging the unseen gap between mod, goth and punk music, The Horrors burst onto the scene, spurting a no-nonsense mix of London rock and theatrical punk. Putting as much effort into their dramatic stage shows as they do their immaculate appearances, The Horrors make camp, catchy music that would do a Tim Burton soundtrack proud.
The Horrors tour dates
The Big Pink
London duo The Big Pink whose drone-led soundscapes and dreamy vocals put them somewhere in the same category as MGMT and has led to support slots with the likes of TV On The Radio.
The Big Pink tour dates
Polly Scattergood
'Polly's eclectic mix of music is a testimony to her phenomenal self-taught talent and remarkable self-drive to tell stories through her music'- Big Note.
Polly Scattergood tour dates
Casiokids
Scandinavian electro outfit hailing from the celebrated music scene in Bergen, Norway – also home to Röyksopp, The Whitest Boy Alive, Ungdomskulen and Datarock.
Casiokids tour dates
The Duloks
'A bit of Kevin Blechdom but with more of a Shaggs flavour. Duloks have made us recover our trust in music and headbands'- East London Post. 'A repertoire of pure fun.... sexy synths and blistering drum beats'- Moles, Bath.
The Duloks tour dates
