Oh What A Lovely War
Barnstormers' summer production, Oh What A Lovely War, was originally devised and presented by Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop in 1963, presented in the form of a sixties seaside end of the pier show.
The play tells the history of the First World War, through story, song and projected images. Seen from the perspective of the common soldier, songs from the period are interspersed with battle statistics, and news headlines chronicle the manoeuvrings of the European powers, while highlighting the ironies and tragedies of the First World War in stories and songs.
Familiar faces on the Regal stage present a show which commemorates the centenary of World War 1 but does not ignore the huge loss of life. For those whose family memories include many songs sung by grand parents or great grand parents, it will be a chance to revisit memories and sing along.
Barnstormers
Barnstormers began life in 1972 as the Festival Players, appearing as part of the Minehead and Exmoor Festival.
