English Folk Guitar Workshop
For any acoustic guitarist open-tuning can really extend your instrumental voice. This workshop will look at song accompaniment and arrangement in opentuning, exploring mixing chords and melody, diads and extending chords, relating it to the scale and right-hand rhythm accompaniment.
The day is suitable for intermediate (or above) players with some understanding of how scales and chords are made up, and who are able to play chord sequences and different strumming patterns and accompany some songs from memory.
You will need to bring a steel-string guitar (preferably strung with standard medium- gauge strings), a capo, clip-on electronic tuner, and be comfortable with tuning your own instrument. No prior knowledge of written music needed as material will be taught by ear.
Tutor Gavin Davenport is a rising start of the English folk scene and performs in The Albion Band, Crucible Trio, The Morris On Band and Hekety. As a qualified teacher and highly respected workshop leader, Gavin has taught at summer schools, festivals and workshops throughout the UK and overseas.
Suitable for ages 15 and over.
