Build Your Own Djembe Workshop
A fantastic opportunity to learn how to construct and re-skin a djembe, the popular African drum.
The course fee covers the provision of high-quality materials for building your drum, including a ready-carved drum shell, rings, rope and goat-skin, as well as use of all the tools and equipment needed to make your drum. You will be given step-by-step instruction on what to do and importantly what not to do, aiming to expel some urban myths about drum-making. After taking your drum home to dry, we’ll run a half-day drum tuning session.
The course is suitable for all but it does involve physical effort and dexterity to make the drum – please contact education@stables.org for further information.
The course is led by experienced African drum-maker and repairer Annie Beddoe, a founder member of the Moribayassa African Drumming Community Group.
