Poetry In Music
The chamber choir Polymnia present a concert of music centred on wonderful poetry. The celebrated violinist Fenella Humphreys, whose playing has been described in the press as ‘mesmerising’ and ‘unforgettable’, performs Vaughan Williams’ original version of The Lark Ascending, inspired by lines by George Meredith, and plays a new piece written especially for her.
The concert also features the first complete performance of a work by the choir’s musical director with texts by the late Seamus Heaney. Other works by Vaughan Williams, John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, Richard Rodney Bennett, Gerald Finzi and Hubert Parry complete the programme.
