It has been announced today that Durham University Big Band will play the opening gig of the Manchester Jazz Festival at Matt and Phreds Jazz Club on July 18th.
The 10 day festival, now in its 19th year, will showcase over 70 jazz artists from all over the world. Previous artists have included UK jazz legends Stan Sulzmann, the BBC Big Band and Claire Martin as well as a host of other internationally acclaimed performers.
The talented student run ensemble have just won the Great North Big Band Jazz Festival for the third time, the only band to do so in the Festival's history. This will be their second appearance at Matt and Phreds, following a sell out gig in November 2013, and will come after a busy summer of gigs in Durham and London.
