Manchester Literature Festival 2012: Yvette Edwards, Robert Williams
Come and listen to two of the brightest new voices in British literature. Yvvette Edwards’ highly acclaimed debut novel A Cupboard Full of Coats was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize and shortlisted for the Writers’ Guild Awards. Rich with voices from East London and the West Indies, it tells the story of Jinx, forced to confront the role she played in the brutal murder of her mother 14 years previously when an old family friend turns up on her doorstep. Robert Williams’ critically acclaimed debut, Luke and Jon, was the winner of the National Book Tokens’ Not-Yet-Published Prize. His new novel, How the Trouble Started, a dark, gripping tale about childhood, morality and the loneliness of children and adults, is told with Williams’ characteristic warmth. He has also written and released music under the name The Library Trust.
