Perspectives 14: Sport

Perspectives14 is a series of monthly talks and discussions led by artists, historians and subject specialists at IWM North to mark the First World War Centenary.

On Christmas Day 1914 British and German soldiers met in no man’s land and exchanged gifts, took photographs and famously played football. As the centenary of the Christmas Truce football match approaches, Professor Emeritus Tony Mason examines sport during the First World War on both the Western Front and the Home Front.

Professor Mason, of De Montfort University’s International Centre for Sports History and Culture, has written extensively on the history of football and sport and the military.

Tickets are free but booking is required.
