Twitchy Organs
The subtle repetitive organ music of Nico Muhly is paired with the electronic sounds of Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never, whose melancholic synths move between ambient, drone and fragmented dance.
Muhly is regarded as one of the hottest young composers of the contemporary New York music scene, while Brooklynite Oneothrix Point Never is well on his way to reaching stardom in the realm of electronic music, especially since the release last year of his album R Plus Seven on the renowned Warp label.
Organist James McVinnie will perform music from Cycles, his debut album release on the influential Bedroom Community label, comprising music written for him by Muhly. He is joined by tenor Simon Wall in Muhly's cycle of pieces based on the plainsong O Antiphons for Advent. Oneothrix Point Never, who makes extensive use of organ samples in his music, will perform his own tracks live with interpolations from Muhly and McVinnie. They will all conclude the concert with a collaborative arrangement of Muhly’s Twitchy Organs.
'It's the three of us and we're going to make a big fun mess' Nico Muhly.
