Autobiographer by Melanie Wilson: Janet Henfrey, Alice Lamb, Penelope McGhie, Melanie Wilson

Combining a lyrical text and immersive staging with Melanie Wilson's celebrated enigmatic and compelling performance style, Autobiographer draws us into the unravelling mind of 76 year old Flora.

A cast of four play Flora simultaneously at different ages, combining text with an electrifying score of voice and kaleidoscopic sound to reveal a curious and evocative portrait of a life and its memories through the lens of dementia.

An examination of the process of memory and how we recall and process our own lives, Autobiographer uses layers of voice, sound and performance to reflect the layers of comprehension and ways of seeing dementia creates in the human brain.

Supported by an Arts Award from the Wellcome Trust, Melanie researched dementia with medical experts, those living with the disease and their carers to write a poetic text based on a rigorous and careful analysis of how the disease affects people's lives.
