Gianni Schicchi by Puccini

This year’s BBC Young Musician piano finalist joins director Paula Chitty of irrational theatre to tackle Puccini’s comic masterpiece Gianni Schicchi.

A death, a will, a scheming family and an hour of comic fun unfold as greed and avarice claw through the thin veneer of family loyalties.

Paula Chitty who runs irrational theatre says’ “Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi is the most fantastic one act opera. It has a sublime but very tricky score and a large cast of great characters, so I am absolutely delighted that Julian Trevelyan finalist in this year’s Young Musician of the Year, has agreed to rise to the challenge. He is only 15 years old and is an incredible talent. Together with a splendid musical director and a super cast I am thrilled to have the opportunity to re stage this rarely performed comic masterpiece at the White Bear Theatre in January”

Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi is the final work in his contrasting triple bill of operas, IL trittico – from a ‘desire to laugh and make others laugh’ It Includes the glorious aria ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ (Theme from the film Room with a View) Staged and Sung in English.

Directed and designed by Paula Chitty.
Presented by irrational theatre

“Full of very good music. O Mio Babbino Caro was delightfully sung. The entire performance was a complete delight. Director, pianist and cast ensure a great success.” John Manning. Herts Advertiser
