Handbagged - Acting Leader - The Panel

Barnes Community Players is delighted to present a triple bill of satire which first featured as plays within a season known as Women, Power & Politics at the Tricycle Theatre in 2010.

Handbagged by Moira Buffini
The Panel by Zinnie Harris
Acting Leader by Joy Wilkinson

The triple bill includes the short original version of Handbagged which concentrates on spoken and unspoken power play between the Queen and Margaret Thatcher. Who rules Britain and how? With clever insights and well researched facts, it is an amusing look at the management of power by two iconic women during these turbulent years ........ how did they get on? One was born to power and the other struggled her way to the top yet they shared a love of the same Launer designer handbags. Political colleagues spoke of being “handbagged” by Thatcher, that is being given a dressing down. How does that authority manifest itself in a deeply loyal servant of the Queen?

The programme is joined by a sharply observed story of poltical back stabbling in Acting Leader by Joy Wilkinson and how Tony Blair and Gordon Brown wrestled for control of the leadership in 1997. Plus a corporate scenario which rings remarkably and amusingly true in The Panel by Zinnie Harris.

Don’t miss this wry, laugh out loud look at power at the top.
