The Odyssey

The story that changes every time it is told....

The myth of Odysseus’ epic journey was ancient when Homer committed it to writing. Almost three thousand years later the stories still echo through our narrative memory.

Since Autumn 2010 over 150 actors, musicians, choreographers and writers have worked with Tony nominated director Tim Carroll (The Globe, Royal Shakespeare Company) and The Factory, to turn their unique spirit of spontaneity, playfulness and imagination to Homer’s epic story.

In Spring 2012 The Factory collaborated with Creation Theatre to present the fruits of this labour at Blackwell’s Bookshop, Oxford. The Odyssey successfully played in Oxford to over 3,500 people during April 2012 and, since then, has also played at Bristol Old Vic, York Theatre Royal, Wilderness Festival, The Willow Globe and as sell out pop-up performances at both The Nursery and 47/49 in London last year. Performances culminated in a hugely successful two week run at CLF Theatre AKA the Bussey Building.

Combining movement, song, original new writing and improvisation, each performance is an original retelling that recreates the spirit of one of the world’s oldest oral storytelling traditions.

A co-production between The Factory and Creation Theatre Company.
