A Just William Evening

Not “just” William – but two Williams! Together for the first time on any stage, the two oldest surviving actors to have portrayed Richmal Crompton’s immortal schoolboy hero.

John Clark was radio’s first William from 1945-1947. He also portrayed William on stage and TV. He later emigrated to Canada and the US and married the late Lynn Redgrave. He will be returning to the UK specifically for tonight’s event.

William Graham was snatched from the variety circuit to become William in two fondly-remembered films, Just William’s Luck (1947) and William Comes to Town (1948). As an adult he was a song-and-dance man, notably for London’s renowned Windmill Theatre.

Not only is this the first time the two Williams have appeared together, it is also the first time they will have met. Their memories of playing William in the post-War years are bound to thrill William’s many fans. Messrs Clark and Graham will be interviewed by David McGillivray, who is making Being William, a documentary about all the actors who have played William on stage, screen, radio and TV since 1939.

The event will be filmed. Please book early as this event is likely to sell out.
