Shostakovitch And Britten, East And West: The Vilaseca String Quartet
The critically acclaimed Vilaseca String Quartet will spend an afternoon exploring this international concord between two iconic composers.
Starting with Britten's "Rhapsody for String" quartet, written when the composer was just 16, the VSQ will assess the musical development of Britten and the influence Shostakovich had on his work.
Other works included will be Shostakovich's "String Quartet No. 4" and Britten's "Three Divertimenti for string quartet", 'Go Play, Boy, Play'. In celebration of Britten's centenary a neglected work by the composer will be played as an encore.
