Barnes Music Festival - Music At The Court Of Bad King John
Music at the Court of Bad King John is a concert of songs and dance music from the era of Magna Carta. The music is performed on period instruments (harp, medieval fiddle, hurdy gurdy etc) and includes some Anglo-Norman motets, estampie dances and songs by or about Richard the Lionheart. The music is interspersed with anecdotes, facts and legends, delivered in a fairly light-hearted manner, documenting the rise and fall of this most notorious monarch and the build up to the revolt of the Barons and the sealing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215.
