Luca Luciano

Italian clarinettist and composer Luca Luciano has been introduced on the front page of De Klarinet magazine as "The New Voice of the Clarinet" and is internationally recognised for his groundbreaking contributions to contemporary clarinet music. During the recital, Luciano will present the World Premiere of his Fragment #6 and the European premiere of Greg Bartholomew's "Rollick and Romp".

Luciano's "Clarinet Solo Project" is informed by his research on extended techniques and new music for solo clarinet that he regularly premieres in the UK or overseas. The performance features music from the critically acclaimed album "Partenope", in particular the “Sequenza” written/arranged by Luciano, Berio's "Lied" and parodies of famous themes by Puccini, George Gershwin, Vivaldi.

During the performance the clarinet is pushed to the edge using a wide range of styles and expressions on music both written and “composed in real time”. Luciano tries in this remarkable journey to embrace all styles of music he loves in an imaginative tour around the world from Western European music to Afro-American or folkloric music of Southern Italy, from contemporary classical music with chromatic and angular-shaped lines to heartfelt melodies.
