Choir And Cello
London Concord Singers is joined by cellist Corinne Morris for a programme of music for choir and cello by John Tavener, Richard Rodney Bennett and Robert Hugill.
Tavener's Svyati sets a text in Church Slavonic which is used during the funeral service and the solo cello represents the Priest.
Richard Rodney Bennett's Farewell to Arms sets poems, one Jacobean and the other Elizabethan, which are both on the theme of an old soldier recalling past wars in peaceful retirement with the cello suggesting the central character of the soldier.
Robert Hugill's Faith, Hope and Charity is a new version of his lyrical solo motet, based on the text from chapter 14 of I Corinthians.
The programme will also include music by the young British composer Bernard Hughes, plus works by the Estonian composer Urmas Siask, Otto Nicolai and Samuel Scheidt.
