Lates

Explore the sounds of science fiction, get hands on with a watermelon guitar and discover what makes music catchy, as Lates explores the science and technology behind music. Plus all the regular highlights of a pub quiz, silent disco and comedy show.

#HookedOnMusic

Hooks are the foundation of hit singles, but what makes a good hook? Join Ashley Burgoyne, creator of #HookedOnMusic and citizen science expert Erinma Ochu, along with special guests, as they explain what makes music catchy.

#HookedOnMusic Quiz

Hear what makes music so catchy by taking part in the #HookedOnMusic quiz. How well you can recognize the hook? There will be prizes to be won.

Meet Ototo
Experimental PCB based synthesiser Ototo is a kit that allows you to combine sensors and touch inputs to create your own electronic musical instrument. Join design and invention studio Dentaku and get hands-on with a variety of weird instruments, from singing origami to a watermelon guitar.

Silent Disco
Whether you’re practising your moves or just in the mood to slam dunk the funk, grab a headset, select your tunes and dance until you drop. The Science Museum does not accept responsibility for the quality of some of the moves you will see. Tweet your catchiest tune requests to #hookedplaylist to hear them in the disco.

Rock and Roll around the collection
From 19th century tuning forks to electronic devices, explore sound through a collection of wonderful musical objects from our stores.
