Charlie Parker On Dial
A show which celebrates the genius of saxophonist Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker, focusing on just two years of his life – his period with Ross Russell’s Dial record label. These years, 1946-47, produced many of the legendary Parker sides, from Night in Tunisia to Scrapple From The Apple, and established the ground rules of the new music, ‘bebop’.
Pianist and arranger Alex Webb evokes these classic recordings with a stellar band fronted by Nathaniel Facey (alto sax) and Freddie Gavita (trumpet).
Special guest, vocalist Vimala Rowe celebrates the early work of Sarah Vaughan, the singer closest to the beboppers.
Sunday lunch available to order.
