Ambassadorial Gifts And Diplomatic Relations Between Russia And Britain In The 17th Century

116 years after Peter the Great's descent on London in January 1698 it was the turn of the next Romanov to visit our shores, and the visit could not have been more different. Unlike Peter, desperately and unsuccessfully attempting to preserve his incognito, Alexander arrived with full pomp and circumstance, the focus of public attention and gossip, and with a suite that included other 'celebrities'. Professor Tony Cross gives a highly entertaining account.
