Dhruv Arts Presents Prince Rama Varma The Prince Of Travancore (Kerala)
Endowed with a deep, rich, baritone voice, Prince Rama Varma has been making waves in the Indian classical music field for more than two decades. Singer, maestro of the Saraswathy Veena (a form of lute), educator, writer, orator and descendant of the legendary composer Maharaja Swathi Thirunal and the painter Raja Ravi Varma, he is here in the UK for the first time since 2000, and is presenting an evening of Carnatic vocal music.
He has command over the lyrics and a perfect sense of harmony with his accompanists: his concerts are always a delight and a learning experience. Passionate about reaching wider audiences, the evening will begin with a talk introducing us to the music of this region - a perfect way to gain insight into the rhythms and sounds of Southern India.
Prince Rama Varma (vocals) will be joined by Jyotsna Srikanth on Carnatic violin, M Balachandar on Mridangam, and brothers RR Prathap on Ghatam and RN Prakash on Khanjira.
