In 1908, before she had published any fiction, Virginia Woolf announced in a letter to Clive Bell that she wanted to ‘reinvent’ the novel. Exhibition curator Frances Spalding looks at the influence of painting on Woolf’s thinking and the importance of her association with Roger Fry.
