The Backstory

Short plays based on The Boyband by Sam Benjamin; the winning play of The First 20 Minutes 2014. Each play has a completely new set of characters that live in the world of The Boyband play.

The Boyband by Sam Benjamin (extract from full length play):
29 year old Darren reunites with three friends from his university days for the funeral of their mutual friend. They soon find themselves revaluating their life choices and the prospect of turning thirty. When Darren finds out the dream girl he let get away is getting married he decides to go on a mission to win her back. But Darren's quest is plunged into a world of 90s Boyband RnB and Pop music, as his old friends try to persuade him to re-form their old singing group and enter a new singing contest.

Thick Skin by Sandra Thompson-Quartey:
There are two simple rules when working for pop star Rose Valentine. Don’t quit and don’t get fired. While Lisa takes desperate measures to cope with the stress of the job, Chrissy takes desperate measures to get out of it.

Milky Buttons Katie Redford:
Rachael, Mia and Lucinda have one thing in common; they're insanely infatuated with The Ultimate Boyband contestants; Fab4. Things spiral scarily out of control when Rachael takes dedication to a new level. How far will they go to get what they want? More importantly will Mia make it home in time for Masterchef.

Always A Bridesmaid by Grace Akingbade:
Rival bridesmaids Melanie and Amy and are starting to wonder why they are always the bridesmaid and never the bride. They soon realise they have more in common than they think.
