Chamber Classics Unwrapped
Dvorák - String Sextet in A major Op. 48
Schubert - String Quintet in C major D.956
In their second appearance in this series, the Chamber Ensemble performs a pair of classics from the chamber music repertoire. The concert opens with Dvo?ák's vigorous yet melodious String Sextet which the Chamber Ensemble has performed across the world. The Sextet is followed by Schubert's String Quintet, which unconventionally includes an additional cello rather than viola, creating a depth of tone in the lower register. Considered to be Schubert's greatest chamber work, it is no surprise to see it voted No.1 Chamber Classic by readers of BBC Music Magazine and Kings Place audiences.
