Played Twice - The Shape Of Jazz To Come
Brilliant Corners is excited to announce the launch of Played Twice, a new event exploring and celebrating classic jazz albums.
Played Twice is made up of two elements: a full, uninterrupted, and audiophile quality playback of a seminal jazz album, followed by a live reinterpretation of that album by a group of musicians.
The debut Played Twice will be on 25 September 2014 and the album featured will be one of the most controversial, influential and original albums in post-war jazz: Ornette Coleman’s The Shape of Jazz To Come.
Originally released in 1959, the album marked the beginning of much of the free jazz that was to follow in the mid-60s and brought Coleman’s name to a wider audience. On the recording, Coleman is joined by three legendary musicians: cornetist Don Cherry, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Billy Higgins.
