Epigenetics - How Your DNA Is Turned On And Off

Every cell in your body contains the same DNA. Why, then, can’t you see with your finger? After all, the cells in your eye contain the same genes as those at the end of your pinky. Part of the reason is that some genes are active in the cells of your eye and inactive in your finger. This is epigenetics, an exciting field of science that is all to do with tags that sit on your DNA and turn genes on and off. On 19th May we have Gabriella Ficz and Jude Fitzgibbon from Queen Mary University London, two of the top scientists in this field, ready to tell you how epigenetics is required for our body to function normally and how it also plays a big part in disease.

This event will include an exhibition of Prof Peter Cull's work, hosted by Cedric Gilson. Cull was a medical artist who produced work which was not only strikingly beautiful but anatomically correct.
