Eugene Onegin
Moscow's legendary Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre, last seen in London in 2012 with its critically acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya, comes to the Theatre with the UK-premiere of a masterly modern stage adaptation of Alexander Pushkin's timeless work Eugene Onegin.
Directed by Rimas Tuminas, winner of Best Director at the 2014 Golden Mask Awards, this production remains faithful to the novel, providing an insight into the essence of the Russian soul.
With its enduring themes of condemnation, love, disillusionment, cynicism, compassion and forgiveness, Eugene Onegin is as relevant today as it has been for almost two centuries. Set in a ballet studio backed by a large curved memory mirror this production is full of magnificent poetic images? falling snow, girls reaching for the skies on swings.
