As part of the events marking the 250th anniversary of Rameau’s death, the Barbican presents a choreographed staging of two exquisite court ballets.
The court of Louis XV witnessed music-theatre of unparalleled richness and splendour. Tonight, William Christie and Les Arts Florissants – arguably today’s foremost champions of the French Baroque – conjure up that world once more, with this ravishing staged re-imagining of two of Rameau’s fantastic courtly ballets: the 'heroic pastorale' Daphnis et Eglé, based in Greek myth, and the majestic La Naissance d’Osiris, composed to celebrate the birth of the future King Louis XVI.
