Yorke Dance Project, Pennington Dance Group

London-based Yorke Dance Project and California-based Pennington Dance Group have joined forces for Across Connections, a long-distance collaboration that explores the choreographic challenges of creating work on separate continents.

As former dancers with the US' influential Lewitzky Dance Company, choreographers Yolande Yorke-Edgell and John Pennington wanted to draw upon their shared history to create a joint work for their companies which crossed continents and borders.

Beginning in 2011, they exchanged ideas and movements through Skype, email and video before moving from the virtual to the real and coming together in the studio in LA to create Overlay, a dance in four movements with nine dancers and original scores.

Overlay is performed alongside Yolande Yorke Edgell's 2012 creation Noted and Pennington Dance Group's Dances Before God and Podcast.

The Yorke Dance Project dancers for Across Connections are Amy Thake, Hannah Windows, Edward Mitton, Kieran Stoneley and Yolande Yorke Edgell. The Pennington Group Dancers are Li Chang Rothermich, Yvette Wulff, Michael Szanyi, Tom Tsai and Danae McWatt. The musicians are Mary Lou Newmark, Thomas Preston and Edgar Rothermich.
