A Gala Celebration - Life Reimagined

Come along for a special gala to celebrate an evening of the finest work from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. Kasper Holten, Director of Opera, and Kevin O’Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, have curated a bespoke programme that embraces the spectrum of talent that continues to delight and inspire the Covent Garden audience, ranging from the youngest dancers and singers to some of the most celebrated stars of the ballet and opera world. The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House will be conducted by Nicola Luisotti and Boris Gruzin.

We are pleased to announce that this gala evening will include a new commission from The Royal Ballet’s first Artist in Resident Liam Scarlett. Students of The Royal Ballet School will also be appearing along with children from the Company’s Chance to Dance programme who will dance a specially devised extract from David Bintley’s Penguin Café. The whole Company, along with Principal dancers, will perform much loved pieces from the repertory which will involve choreography by Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor and Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon.

Among the highlights from the Royal Opera will be Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel singing Iago’s Credo from Verdi’s Otello. British tenor Toby Spence will perform Lensky’s beautiful but tragic pre-duel aria from Eugene Onegin. Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, last seen in our production of Faust as Marguerite, will sing Lucia’s first aria from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. We will also be premiering an exciting new commission from the talented children from the Royal Opera House’s Youth Opera Company.

All proceeds go to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Foundation, a registered charity that supports the outstanding performances, remarkable craftsmanship and inspiring Learning and Participation projects of the Royal Opera House.
